About the Opportunity
Are you an experienced economic development professional who loves the outdoors and is keen to access the beautiful wilderness that exists in Northern BC? Are you interested in working directly for a First Nations community?   Kispiox (Anspayaxw) Band Council is looking for a permanent, full-time Economic Development & Marketing Officer to join our team. The Economic Development & Marketing Officer is responsible for working with Council, Administration and the community to create, advance, and maintain sustainable economic development opportunities and capacity.   General duties include (but are not limited to):
  • Building and developing relationships with various public and private sector representatives throughout the Northwest and the Province of BC;
  • Representing Anspayaxw on various regional committees
  • Writing reports and making recommendations to the Band Manager and Chief & Council on policies and programs to assist in the development of the economy of Anspayaxw;
  • Working with regional stakeholders to assist in the implementation of the economic development priorities from the Anspayaxw Strategic Plan;
  • Assisting with updating economic development content on the Anspayaxw website and social media;
  • Assisting the Band Manager and the Chief & Council with the development of advertising, promotional and marketing materials, to be utilized in print advertising, at trade shows, and requests for information on the Anspayaxw and Gitxsan Traditional Territories area;
  • Assisting in the marketing of Anspayaxw’s economic development initiatives at special events, trade shows, and training seminars within local area;
  • Compiling and updating relevant economic data as required from various sources such as Statistics Canada, Province of BC, municipal partners, etc.;
  • Preparing regular economic development update reports;
  • Analyzing and identifying trends in the economy and propose responses for consideration by the Economic Development Committee to address the potential opportunity or challenge;
  • Preparing proposals, business cases, research/analysis/position papers, briefing documents, project status updates, presentations, correspondence, and Committee and Council reports for internal and external economic development purposes;
  • Seeking out, researching, and overseeing funding and grant opportunities to assist in financing Economic Development projects;
  • Using Xyntax to track contacts and enquiries;
  • Conducting ongoing outreach with the external business community;
  • Exploring and understanding business trends and looking for innovative ways to support and create successful business ventures in an ever-changing economy;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
About Kispiox
Kispiox Band is located in the Kispiox Valley at the confluence of the Skeena and Kispiox Rivers.  Our rivers are known worldwide for their fishing.  We are surrounded by mountains and rivers which create a spectacular and breathtaking landscape. The area is perfect for anyone who loves to explore the outdoors. Kispiox has a total membership of 1,670 members – 578 reside on reserve and 1,092 members reside off-reserve. Kispiox Band is governed by an elected body consisting of nine Councillors and one Chief Councillor.

About You                                                      
Our preferred candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree in one or more of the following: Business Administration, Management, Economics, or Commerce, Marketing;
  • Previous experience in economic/business development and marketing

We are looking for an individual with the following skills, strengths, and interests:

  • Strong decision-making skills, a willingness to learn and make choices using sound judgement;
  • Excellent leadership, professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
It is an asset if you have knowledge of and interest in First Nations communities and their culture. Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident living in Canada.

Additional Details                                         
Kispiox (Anspayaxw) Band Council offers competitive salary packages ($60,000 - $80,000) and benefits, an incredible work environment, and career advancement opportunities.  This job requires primarily in-person work from the office at Kispiox Band, but flexible work arrangements may be considered for the right person. Sponsored accommodation also may be possible.
