Job Summary:
The incumbent is responsible for safely operating the City transit buses according to a set daily schedule. Ensure that the transit
bus is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off customers as per the schedule, maintain order and security
on the bus and obey all laws and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Operate the bus in a safe and efficient way in accordance with established schedules and all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
2. Adhere to road, weather and traffic conditions and be attentive to street signs, traffic signals, pedestrians, other vehicles, etc.
3. Ensure that the bus is clean and in proper working condition at all times.
4. Provide customer service to passengers by answering inquiries, providing route information, and giving directions.
5. Perform circle inspection of bus interior/exterior.
6. Advise a Mechanic of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.7. Maintain orderliness on the bus by effectively diffusing difficult situations.
8. Report delays, malfunctions, and accidents.
9. Complete accident and/or other reports as required, related to any incidences occurring during the shift.
10. Follow, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards.
11. Other related duties.

Working Conditions:
Exposure to extreme weather conditions, noise, fumes and dirt when driving buses or working at
transit sites.Knowledge and Skills:
- Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered and 3
years safe driving experience in extreme weather conditions including snow and ice. - Driver’s abstract indicating safe and responsible vehicle operation with no infractions, offences,
convictions, demerit points, or accidents (past 3 years). - Valid class 5 driver’s license and written Class 2 with Air Brake Endorsement. Meet the minimum age
and medical standards requirement. - Ability to obtain Class 2 driver’s license within 3 weeks of hire. Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public and providing assistance in a variety of
situations. Thorough geographical knowledge of city streets and buildings. - Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations. Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.

- Provide assistance to persons with disabilities (boarding, de-boarding, securing, etc.) Collects
fares - Handy Bus Driver
- Provides curb to curb assistance to persons with disabilities Sells tickets/passes and collects fares.
Examples of Equipment to Operate:
Transit software, transit buses, communications equipment, emergency equipment (e.g. fire extinguisher on buses and building alarm system) and general office equipment including computer skills to operate software programs including electronic mail, ERP, etc.
