Ross River Dena Council (RRDC) is seeking a leader to take on the role of Director of Finance.

Based full-time in Ross River, this position reports directly to the RRDC Executive Director. You will be responsible for the development and ongoing implementation of financial systems and for supervising a team of employees in finance, planning, budgeting, and reporting. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will contribute to the long-term strategic vision of the Nation, collaborating with other members to ensure the long-term success of RRDC. You will provide leadership in accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting activities in accordance with organizational mandates and governance and also be responsible for the day-to-day organizational operations of the financial administration systems of the RRDC.

Required Experience, Education and Knowledge

Experience and Education

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
  • Considerable experience leading a Finance team, department, or function, in a complex organizational environment, and providing financial expertise to organizational leadership
  • In-depth knowledge of finance and accounting principles, laws, and best practices

Important areas of knowledge and skill necessary for this position are:

  • Knowledge of the RRDC culture, history, goals, and aspirations
  • Knowledge of the Kaska people living in the Yukon and in northern British Columbia
  • Understanding of the Kaska position with respect to the Land Claims process and its participation in that process
  • In-depth knowledge of financing models and opportunities for businesses, particularly for First Nations-owned corporations and band-empowered entities
  • Excellent numerical, research, analytical and reporting skills, able to analyze and process complex financial data.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and finance principles, and accounting tools and systems including Sage 50, QuickBooks Online, MS Excel.

Compensation: $75,000 to $85,000, dependent upon experience.
