The Developer, Business Intelligence reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Intelligence, works collaboratively with end users across the business to develop reporting systems that turn data into knowledge and provide high-quality accessible information for improved decision-making and solving organizational problems. The Developer, Business Intelligence designs, develops, and maintains business intelligence solutions, supports data analytics platforms, and conducts testing and troubleshooting. Management and optimization of BI data, systems, and analytics are used to create marketing contact strategies, analyze customer behaviour, automate business insight processes and provide insight to drive business decisions. This position requires excellent analytical and communication skills and has an in-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing and ETL frameworks and related programming languages.

Key Accountabilities
Working closely with Business Units to engage, align, develop and implement a consolidated business intelligence framework, the successful candidate will need to:
- Developing, generating, and delivering high-quality accessible visualizations and reports in reporting systems such as PowerBI and QlikSense to internal customers, performing quality assurance checks, optimizing usability and the user experience.
- Create prototypes and proofs of concept.
- Perform technical troubleshooting, code debugging, and problem solving for custom built data solutions.
- Monitor data reporting systems, identify, communicate, and resolve data quality and data reconciliation issues.
- Analyze existing visualizations and reports and optimize them for standardization across the company.
- Support and execute daily/weekly/monthly/annual recurring data cycling and data update functions.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements; automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery.
- Communicate with non-technical business users to determine specific business requirements for the development and maintenance of reports and business intelligence solutions.
- Translate business needs into technical specifications.
- Participate in implementing effective business analytics practices that drive improved decision making, efficiency and performance.
- Communicate regularly with technical, application and operational staff to ensure database integrity, security and optimized performance at the application and database level.
- Participate in and support Business Intelligence planning and problem resolution.
- Participate in user research and usability testing to help improve the user experience.
- Perform independent audits and reviews and validate databases to ensure data integrity.
- Develop and enforce standards and procedures for the storage and retrieval of business and operational data.
- Work collaboratively with the business to resolve data discrepancies and/or to clarify reporting procedures.
- Maintain an accurate and comprehensive inventory of data inventory, data systems, and data storage.
- Designing and developing business-wide data analysis and reporting solutions.
- Analyze data for patterns and trends, before reporting findings and data-driven recommendations to the company for decision-making.
- Generate weekly and monthly reports with market trends past and present.
- Understand and enforce current data protection/privacy policies and laws.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Competencies Required
- A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, or a related field is required for this position.
- Three to five years of experience in the business intelligence field and working with Business Intelligence tools such as QlikSense, PowerBI and Tableau.
- Experience with large data sets and dimensional modelling.
- Demonstrated experience in data extraction and manipulation (ETL techniques).
- Working knowledge of business intelligence tools.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Business Intelligence areas including database operations and optimization, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (extract, transform, load) framework, analytics and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, DAX, and/or other related programming languages with scripting abilities and understanding of relational databases, complex stored procedures, views, data aggregation/manipulation through table joins/queries, database design, normalization and de-normalization techniques.
- Functional understanding of data modelling and data schemas.
- Experience assembling large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
- Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Possesses strong oral and written communication skills, clearly and accurately communicating complex and/or technical information to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Strong attention to detail, possess an analytical mind with a problem-solving/trouble-shooting aptitude.
- Proven ability to take initiative and be innovative.
- Experience with and knowledge of data analysis and visualization is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in a metrics-driven culture is considered an asset.
