Yukon University Research Centre is seeking a Data Steward to support the development of Integrated Youth Services (IYS) in the Yukon. This role will contribute to strengthening how data is collected, managed, and used to support youth mental health and wellness services across the territory. Additionally, they will support the ethical and effective use of data to inform planning, learning, and continuous improvement across the Yukon IYS initiative.

About the Role 
The Data Steward will coordinate and organize data related to IYS programs and initiatives across Yukon, ensuring information is managed in a clear and consistent way. You will develop practical guidelines and documentation to support ethical and standardized data collection and reporting, and work collaboratively with Yukon service partners and the national IYS Data Platform to advance shared data initiatives. The position involves preparing summaries, basic analyses, and reports that inform planning, learning, and system improvement. You will also support the integration of culturally respectful and ethical data practices, including principles of Indigenous data sovereignty, and provide guidance to partners on data processes and documentation. This role works closely with service providers, researchers, and partners across Yukon and at the national level to strengthen collaborative data efforts.

Education
A post-secondary degree in a relevant field such as: data science, information management, computer science, public health or related discipline.
Relevant coursework or training in data analysis or data management may also be considered.

Experience
• 2–4 years of experience supporting data collection, coordination, analysis, or reporting
• Experience working with datasets or relational databases
• Experience preparing summaries, reports, or visualizations for diverse audiences
• Experience collaborating with multiple organizations or partners

Assets
• Knowledge of data ethics, privacy, and Indigenous data sovereignty principles (e.g., OCAP®, CARE)
• Experience working in northern, rural, or Indigenous contexts
• Experience using data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python, or other analytic software)

The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational skills and attention to detail, along with the ability to communicate data concepts clearly to non-technical audiences. They will demonstrate excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills, enabling them to work effectively with a range of partners and stakeholders. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are important, as is comfort working in evolving systems where processes and practices are still developing.
