Construction Supervisor - Permanent

Salary:  Level 7 Step 1 ($86,229.00 annually)

Reporting to the Infrastructure Development Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing and managing the construction crew on major renovations, upgrades and construction of new TH rental housing, buildings, facilities, infrastructure and on-the-land camps in all areas related to the carpentry trade. The incumbent will also manage and oversee all related functions necessary to ensure the safety, security, and functionality of all facilities and staff teams, adherence to national and Yukon building codes, risk assessments as well as manage inventory and supplies lists. The position supervises construction staff, and participates in the ongoing development and advancement of TH apprentice carpenters. This position will be expected to work in all weather, temperatures and in confined spaces, such as foundations and attics.   

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  

  • High school Diploma (or GED equivalency) with Red Seal and/or valid Journeyperson ticket in Carpentry, plus a 10+ year’s of experience with finishing work, including fine woodwork. An equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skill, and experience may be considered.
  • 2+ years of experience supervising and monitoring employees on a worksite, including mentoring apprentices.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and various trades such as demolition, concrete and formwork, framing, basic HVAC/ electrical/plumbing, underlayment, drywall hanging, taping, and finishing, painting, tiling, flooring installation, finish carpentry, window, door, and siding installation.
  • Experience and knowledge of waste minimization and environmentally friendly practices.
  • Working knowledge of Canada and Yukon Building and Municipal Heritage Codes.
  • Experience in self-directing projects based on blueprints and communication from supervisors.
  • Experience working in remote camp settings.
  • Experience interpreting blueprints, drawings, sketches and calculating supply requirements as well as executing the requested task. 

Assets:  

  • Knowledge of northern climates and building methods.
  • Knowledge of Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Government structure, social values and culture.
  • Experience working for a First Nation Government is an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, video conferencing and applicable software.
