Communications Coordinator - Term

Salary:  Level 8 Step 1 (3,666.75 bi-weekly)

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Policy, the primary responsibility of this position is to support Tr’ondek Hwech’in (TH) Government’s development and implementation of communication strategies, projects and related activities. This position coordinates a range of priorities including: drafting press releases, speeches, and reports; designing and developing newsletters, brochures, monthly calendars; managing and creating on-line content for the TH website, social media presence, promotional materials, and advertisements; and organizing logistics associated with press releases, news conferences, and announcements. This position is responsible for research and analysis, producing summary briefings, and providing executive level reports to inform decision-making. This role will take on special assignments and may also support General Assemblies and other general meetings, as directed by the Director of Communications and Policy. 

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications: 

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related discipline. An equivalent combination of education, training, skills and abilities may be considered. 
  • A minimum of two (2) years' previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a government environment.
  • Previous experience planning and coordinating projects, campaigns, events and activities.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing and administering website content management systems.
  • Extensive experience preparing written materials / executive level summaries on a tight deadline.
  • Demonstrated experience in general office management practices and procedures associated with working within a government setting.
  • Proficient in utilizing graphic design software (Canva, Adobe In-Design, Photoshop, etc), Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and ability to moderate videoconference / Zoom meetings.
  • General knowledge of Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Land Claims Agreements, self-government agreement and implementation agreements and constitution.

  • Knowledge of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in government structure, culture, traditions, history, demographics, family structures and socio-economic dynamics, challenges, and aspirations.
  • Strong research, analysis and reporting skills.
