Citizenship Registry Assistant - Term
Department:  Governance & Executive Operations
Location: Tr’ondek Hwech’in Offices – Dawson, YT

End Date:  One (1) year from start date – possibly becoming permanent
Salary:  Level 5 Step 1 ($36.39 hourly)

Reporting to the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy and Citizenship Registrar Officer, the incumbent assists with administering the TH Citizenship Registry providing information about entitlement, eligibility and application procedures to applicants, processing Citizenship applications for review by the TH Citizenship Committee, and reviewing and responding to requests for Jay Treaty letters and Citizenship Confirmation letters. The incumbent assists with Indian Registration Administrative (IRA) services by working with Citizens on matters of Status Registration with Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs (CIRNAC). 

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  

  • Post-secondary diploma, certificate or degree in business or office administration, communications, records management or similar field of study, as well as minimum of one year working in a government environment.  An equivalent combination of education, skills and abilities may be considered.
  • Strong ability to use Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel) and videoconferencing technologies. 
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with an ability to organize/prioritize work commitments and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and writing skills to effectively communicate policy and procedures.
  • Ability to deliver employee and community training and education with respect to Citizenship matters.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Detail oriented, organized and excellent file management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, problem solve and plan strategically.

Assets:  

  • Knowledge of Indigenous Citizenship policies and processes is an asset.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with TH Citizens, TH employees, service providers and other levels of governments. 

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Completion of First Nation (Indian) Registry (a required training course delivered by Indigenous Services Canada).
  • Criminal Records Check.
  • TH Cultural Awareness training
