Specific Accountabilities 

  • Performs corrective maintenance, preventative maintenance and complete regular requirements for all equipment contained at Central Office locations including multiplexing, VF and associated signaling equipment together with Switching equipment, CCS7 and Voice Mail Systems, all in support of services provided by the company.
  • Performs circuit order and work order activity as required
  • Maintains data circuits and associated equipment
  • Maintains DC power plant and associated equipment
  • Occasionally required to work on remote switching gear within designated operating area.
  • Be available and willing to work scheduled/unscheduled overtime (on standby as per LOU or via callout), including Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays as requested.
  • Protect company assets.
  • Actively participate in your personal education, progression and development.
  • Contribute individually and as part of a team to continuous improvement in the delivery of your product or service to internal and/or external customers.

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Journeyman Technician or graduate of a 2-year communication electronic program at a recognized technical institute.
  • Nortel and/or Cisco certifications required (partial certification will be considered)
  • CCS7, DMS, DAX, IP, VOIP, and Fiber experience required (Combinations of direct working experience and/or certifications will be considered)
  • Able to demonstrate basic to intermediate IP/VOIP knowledge
  • Computer literacy required to be demonstrated (DOS, Linux and Shell knowledge an asset)
  • Central Office experience is an asset
  • Installation background & experience is a definite asset
  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision.
  • Possess excellent English written/verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team with a broad range of duties.
  • Possess valid driver’s license (minimum class 5)
  • Must be physically capable of performing all duties and tasks.
  • Must be willing to work inside or outside in all weather conditions.
  • Overnight travel or work may be required occasionally.
