Reporting to the Property Manager, the On the Land Camp Caretaker is responsible for a wide variety of repair, maintenance, and janitorial functions for Government of Carcross / Tagish First Nation (GC/TFN) community buildings.

Among other duties, this will involve:

  • Greeting camp users and instructing them on camp use and where facilities are located;
  • General assistance to camp user’s enquiries;
  • Ability to perform basic yard and structure upkeep throughout Camp;
  • Ability to identify items in need of maintenance and / or repair;
  • Cleaning and disinfecting facilities;
  • Removing garbage to a central point for pick-up;
  • General cleanliness of camp grounds.


  • Previous maintenance and/or janitorial experience will be considered an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Proven ability to work independently under a minimum of supervision;
  • Ability to safely operate all related cleaning equipment;
  • Ability to perform heavy cleaning duties as required;
  • Ability to foster trust and acceptance at the community level;
  • Willingness to learn traditional and cultural practices of GC/TFN as applicable within our governance setting;
  • Completion of Peacemaking Circle Training is encouraged and will be considered an asset.

  • RCMP Criminal Record Check
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as required
  • Boat operators’ license
  • Chainsaw operators ticket
  • Wilderness first-aid
