We are excited to add new allocations for Educational Assistants for the 23/24 school year, though the budget has yet to be finalized. An offer will be contingent on budgetary approval which should be obtained mid-June 2023 at which time a formal offer letter will be forwarded to the successful candidate.

ST.ELIAS COMMUNITY SCHOOL (SEC) – Dakwäkäda / Haines Junction 
Home to the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations people, St. Elias Community School is one of 11 Yukon schools that have joined the newly established First Nation School Board (FNSB) in the Yukon. Southern Tutchone is the traditional language of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations people. 
St. Elias Community school is a K4-12 school with approximately 145 students. We are actively seeking a committed and qualified educator who is dedicated to living and being an active member of the Haines Junction community. Our educational professionals value authentic relationships and are committed to working with students, community, administration, Champagne and Aishihik First Nations education team and the FNSB to make positive, progressive changes to education outcomes for learners of Haines Junction. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;
  • Experience working with children and youth;
  • Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or Medical Services would be an asset;
  • Experience integrating self-regulation and social- motional care practices in the classroom is an asset;
  • Experience working with Indigenous learners in a culturally diverse community is an asset;
  • Experience with restorative justice in a classroom setting would be an asset and
  • Experience working with neuro-diverse students will be an asset.

  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;
  • Willingness to learn Southern Tutchone;
  • Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;
  • Ability to work as a member of a team;

  • Desire and passion for developing and maintaining strong and respectful relationships and trust with students, their families, school staff, First Nation education workers, and the community as a whole.
