Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Manager, Recreation. the incumbent ensures the safe, efficient, customer focused operation and maintenance of all the Indoor recreation facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.    Leads the operation, maintenance and repairs of indoor recreation facilities, and janitorial services, delivered in-house or by contractors. Serves as the liaison with leaseholders and vendors.
2.    Recruits, directs, schedules, trains and appraises the performance of reporting staff. Is authorized to Issue written reprimands and contribute to higher levels of discipline in accordance with the progressive discipline directive.
3.    Reviews. investigates, and responds to public complaints, incident reports, and facility safety and security concerns.
4.    Analyzes operational data, reviews designs, compiles Information, maintains statistics, prepares and presents reports, supports decision-making and promotion of the facilities.
5.    Responds promptly to service requests and user feedback. Communicates outages, maintenance impacts and restoration timelines.
6.    Prepares and monitors (controls), under the direction of the Manager. Recreation, the Operations annual operating and capital, budgets.
7.    Prepares and evaluates tenders, quotations. proposal calls and reports and awards or recommend awards in accordance with the City's Purchasing Policy.
8.    Plans and executes seasonal changeovers with detailed work plans, risk assessments, and stakeholder communication.
9.    Ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that reporting staff follow established safety procedures and standards.
10.  Acts as Manager, Recreation, as assigned.
11.  Other related duties.

Position Requirements

Working Conditions:

Hours of work: 4x10 hours or 5x8 hours shifts/week. Exposure to occasional disagreeable conditions including dust/dirt, grease/oil, inclement weather and temperature extremes and hazardous substances.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•    Diploma in Recreation Facility Management or related field
•    5th Class Power Engineering Certificate
•    Previous Experience - 5 years maintenance experience in facility operations, Including experience within aquatics and/or arena environments. At least 2 years of experience should be at a supervisory level
•    On the job experience - 6 months
•    Demonstrated experience with asset management and lifecycle planning
•    Strong staff leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills; ability to lead a multidisciplinary team across varied operational shifts.
•    Knowledge of public health requirements for pools, refrigeration plant safety practices, and municipal facility standards
•    Commitment to customer service, accessibility, inclusion and cultural safety
•    Class 5 Driver's License

Certifications required within 1 year may include but are not limited to:

•    Arena Operators Certificate Level II
•    Pool Operator's Level II
•    Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TOG)
•    WHMIS
•    Standard First Aid, CPR Level C
•    Yukon Electrical Safety Course
•    Hazard Assessment and Control Course
•    Aerial Lift Training
•    Confined Space Entry
•    Chlorine Handling

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Examples of Equipment to Operate:

Pool filtration system, chlorination and PH control systems, water test kits and pool vacuum, ice resurfacing and ice refrigeration/boiler systems, janitorial equipment, basic carpentry and small power tools, communications and office equipment, City vehicles, trailers and bobcat, and computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Explorer, Outlook, Class for Windows, and ERP.
