Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

Description:

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
This FREE session is made possible under the Yukon Mental Wellness Strategy: Forward Together

ASIST provides practical help for caregivers seeking to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.

This course is designed to provide caregivers of all backgrounds with emergency “first aid” skills for helping people at risk of suicidal behaviours. The training is intended to improve caregiver skills and abilities to intervene until either immediate danger of suicide is reduced or additional resources can be accessed. Intervention attitudes, knowledge, skills and resources are presented in two days of practical training.

Certificates are issued from Living Works in Alberta, which is a public service company that develops, delivers and distributes programs for the prevention of suicide. ASIST is  coordinated in Alberta by Suicide Prevention Training Programs. ASIST is the most widely used suicide intervention-training program in the world.
